#12, #13 & #14

I’m really behind on getting my pics uploaded here! I’m really just 3 days behind on actually taking them but I plan on getting caught up soon and I’m starting right now. Picture #12 is of one of clients who also happen to be friends; The Wiants. The goal was to get everyone to look at me, including the dog, while I tried to get the baby to smile. After 8-9 shots we got it.

#13 is of a hat that I use with sessions. It’s a crocheted cream colored hat with a beautiful deep pink flower on it. I took it using only natural lighting that was coming in my studio window.

#14 is a beautiful 13 week old baby that has just entered my Cutest Baby Contest. I love her eyes!

Dr. Jones often times will curl up on my backdrops to sleep. This time I was able to creep down to catch him in a snooze… or so I thought. Just as I crouched down and got really close he opened his eyes and looked at me. That’s when I snapped the camera. He was not at all phased, and went right back to sleep. I converted it to black & white just for the heck of it. I shot this in manual mode, 1/60 sec. at f/5 with my ISO 640.

These collages are comprised of several photos I took at my son’s 6th year birthday party. We had it at Chuck E. Cheese’s in Dublin and it was fun. It was loud and crowded but the pizza was hot, the cake was rich and Matthew got to have 30 seconds in the ticket blaster. What more can you ask for?

So, I’m still on track with actually taking the pictures for the challenge, it’s just been more of a challenge getting them posted! I’m still working on a ton of orders/stuff and year end tax info so I’m a bit slow. However; Picture #9 is from a maternity session I had on the 9th. The couple moved here from Michigan right after their first son was born and the photographer they used for their maternity session then took a picture with a blue bow around the soon-to-be-mommy’s tummy since they knew it was going to be a boy. Once Jackson made his entrance into the world, the photographer used the same ribbon on Jackson for one of his newborn photos. She wanted to do the same thing with this baby. I’m looking forward to the new one’s arrival in February and being able to do his first professional portraits.

I had a session with an Associate of Scotts and she wanted to get some portraits made of 2 very special little girls. The youngest, Ashley, was 3 years old and she presented a little bit of a challenge as she is in that age group where every time you tell them to smile they give you this really, really, “cheesy” smile, or none at all! So, after the session was winding down she stepped out of the studio for a second and then peeked back in. That’s when I got this shot.

I had a photo session on the 7th and it was a senior girl who brought along 4 of her best friends. After her session, her friends jumped in for some “girl-friends” portraits. They are all studying to be nurses so they wanted to get some with all of them in their scrubs. This idea, of having everyone do something to another one of their friends, was actually from my senior girl but I liked the way it turned out so much that I had to make a magazine cover from it.

Yesterday, I noticed a red cardinal in our weeping cherry tree. Unfortunately, I was looking at it through my back door. By the time I ran up to get my camera and got back down again, he had relocated to another branch. I began to take several pictures of him, through the closed back door, as he hopped back and forth from branch to branch. I really, really wanted to get a much closer picture but knew that as soon as I opened the door he would fly away. I decided to try anyway and as I slowly opened the door he stood there and looked at me. I took this photo. As soon as I opened the door all the way and stepped out on the deck he flew away! But I was happy with this shot the most. So after a little editing in Photoshop (mainly the coloring) here is my 6th photo! I shot this in manual mode, no flash. ISO of 200, shutter 1/60 and f5.0. I’ve titled it “one red bird”.

Day #4 & #5 pics

Okay, so I did take these pics on day 4 & 5 but I’m just now posting them. The first one is Matthew in the tub. I tried to get one of just his toy monkey but Matthew was always trying to get into the picture frame so after deleting 5 pictures I decided to use him in the background instead. So the monkey is still in the shot but now it’s all about Matthew’s toes. I shot this in manual mode, using a flash with a shutter speed of 1/160, f2.8 and ISO 400.

Day 5 picture is of my stairway. Dr. Jones had been laying there previously and was barking at the sound of the mailman. Once I looked out of my studio door (which is at the top of the stairs) I saw all of the different angles and thought this would be a great picture. I used natural lighting (no flash) and was in the manual mode, shutter of 1/60, f2.8 and ISO 3200. By using a higher ISO and opening my aperature up I lost some of the shadows on my front door window but it allowed for all the other detail upstairs to be seen.

So many pics, so little time!

I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to update this blog in awhile. I’m telling you, it can be exhaustive updating all the places that need updating! The best way to see my current pics is to friend me on Facebook. I’ve got both my personal page, and my business page, online there. They get updated even before my website – which is NOT good, I know. Anyway, I’ve decided to ADD to my chaos by taking on the challenge of photographing a picture a day for the year (aka: 365 in 2011). Since I’m actually behind 3 days I decided to photograph the main reason why; my desk and the paperwork. So here are the first 3 photos of 2011 and I’ve got to take another one today yet. More Seniors and stuff!

Once again, I’m WAY behind on the posting of pics here. So much to do and so little time, especially when I’ve been battling bronchitis and pluerisy. Ouch! Anyway, here are just a few of my favs. This one is my favorite from this session because it’s just so beautiful! Morgan is beautiful to begin with and I just love the hair light from behind (thank you Mr. Sun) and I had her mom hold the reflector to bounce the light up and into her face. I love it!

This next one is a favorite of mine because of the subject matter. This is a family that I’ve photographed before and their 2 boys are your typical little boys; all action and hard to keep still. Especially since we were in a park with a playset near by! I told the parents to stand still and smile at the camera and then I had the boys just run circles around them and I ended up photoshopping 2 photos into one. Had fun doing it and I think it turned out great!
